Get the Kids Outside This Summer: Why a Garden Cricket Set is the Perfect Family Activity

Put Down the Screens and Pick Up a Bat!

In a world where kids are spending more time than ever on tablets and screens, getting them outside and active is a challenge every parent faces. But there's one classic British garden game that never fails to bring the whole family together — cricket.

Whether you're a seasoned cricket fan or have never watched a match in your life, a garden cricket set is one of the best investments you can make for your family this summer. It's easy to learn, fun for all ages, and all you need is a bit of grass (or even a living room floor!).

Why Cricket is Perfect for Kids

Cricket isn't just fun — it's genuinely great for children's development:

• Hand-eye coordination — batting and catching develop fine motor skills and reaction times
• Teamwork and communication — even in the garden, kids learn to work together and take turns
• Physical activity — running between wickets, fielding, and bowling all count towards their daily movement
• Focus and patience — waiting to bat and concentrating on the ball builds attention skills
• Confidence — hitting a ball or taking a wicket gives kids a brilliant sense of achievement

What to Look for in a Garden Cricket Set

If you're buying for the garden rather than the pitch, you don't need professional-grade equipment. Here's what matters:

• Durability — garden cricket takes a beating, so look for robust materials that can handle enthusiastic play
• Portability — a set that packs away easily means you can take it to the park, beach, or a friend's garden
• Age-appropriate sizing — smaller bats and lighter balls make it easier for younger children to get involved
• Indoor & outdoor use — a versatile set means the fun doesn't stop when the weather turns
• Everything included — look for a full set with bats, stumps, and balls so you can play straight out of the box
